Cake Mixture
|
2 unbaked 9-inch pie shells
Mix the 1 cup sugar, cocoa and water together in a saucepan.
Cook, stirring constantly, just to boilng. Reduce the temperature to low and
simmer gently for 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from heat, add vanilla and set aside.
Cream the sugar, shortening. Add beaten eggs.
Mix the baking powder and flour together.
Alternately add the milk and the flour/baking powder mixture.
Add the vanilla and mix well.
Traditionally you put the batter into the pie crusts first, then pour chocolate sauce over batter. Sauce then falls to the bottom of the batter during baking.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350° F. for 35 to 40 minutes or until the crust is baked and the cake springs back when touched lightly in the center.
Cool completely on wire racks before serving.
